Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask before they order a figurine.

Short version: you upload a photo, see and approve a preview, pay, and a 13–14 cm resin figurine arrives unpainted with numbered paints and a guide made for it. Free delivery across India. The long version is below. Anything missing, WhatsApp us.

What it is

What exactly is a Bombay Print Lab figurine?

A custom miniature figurine of real people (or a pet) made from a photo you upload. It is 3D-printed in resin, stands 13–14 cm tall on a black pedestal, and arrives white and unpainted together with numbered paints mixed for it, brushes, clear varnish and a painting guide printed for that exact figurine. You paint it yourself at home. Prices start at ₹2,299 for one person, with free delivery anywhere in India.

Is the figurine realistic or cartoon-style?

It is a stylised collectible figure: a large head and a short body, like a premium cartoon or chibi collectible, but with the real person's face, hairstyle, glasses, beard, skin tone, build and clothes carried over from the photo. You see this exact design as a preview and approve it before anything is made.

Does the figurine come painted?

No. Every kit ships with the figurine primed white and unpainted, because painting it is the point of the product. The paints are already mixed to match your preview and numbered, and the guide shows where each number goes, so there is nothing to match by eye. We do not currently sell a pre-painted version.

Who is Bombay Print Lab?

A small studio in Siliguri, West Bengal, India, that makes custom figurine painting kits and ships them across India. The 3D printers are in-house, the paints are mixed by hand at the studio, and the WhatsApp number on the site is answered by a person. The brand's main website is make.bombayprintlab.com; bombayprintlab.com is the same studio's Shopify store.

Ordering and the preview

How does ordering work?

Upload a photo at make.bombayprintlab.com/order/photos, verify your WhatsApp number, and a coloured preview of your figurine is generated in a few minutes. If you like it, approve it, enter a delivery address and pay. We then print, prime and pack the figurine, mix its paints, print its guide and ship the box to you with WhatsApp updates along the way.

Do I have to pay before I see the design?

No. You see the full-colour preview of your figurine first and pay only after you approve it. Each phone number gets three free previews, so you can retry or change the photo before deciding.

What kind of photo should I upload?

One clear, well-lit photo with everyone's face visible and the whole person in frame works best. Up to four people and a pet can be in one order. The photo is checked automatically before anything else happens, so a photo that will not make a good figurine is flagged immediately rather than after payment. Very large animals such as horses or cows cannot be made.

Can I ask for changes to the preview?

Yes. You can retry the preview or upload a different photo (three previews per phone number), and you can leave a note describing a tweak, such as a different shirt colour, which the team applies by hand before the figurine is printed.

Can I order a figurine of two or more people?

Yes, up to four people in one order: ₹2,299 for one person, ₹3,299 for two, ₹4,299 for three and ₹5,299 for four. Orders with two or more figures are sculpted as separate free-standing pieces, each on its own pedestal, which prints cleaner and is easier to paint than a single joined piece.

Can I order a figurine of just my pet?

Yes. A pet-only figurine costs ₹1,999. Adding a pet to a figurine of people costs ₹999 per pet.

Can I order from outside India for delivery to someone in India?

Yes. Many customers abroad order a figurine for family in India. The site accepts international WhatsApp numbers for login, payment is online, and the figurine ships free to any serviceable Indian PIN code. We do not ship outside India.

What is in the box

What comes in the kit?

The 13–14 cm resin figurine, primed white and standing on a black pedestal; every paint colour it needs, hand-mixed and in numbered pots (usually between 8 and 20 pots, depending on the figurine); brushes; a pot of clear varnish for the finish; a folded painting guide with a numbered paint map of your figurine and its colour legend; and a QR code to a phone walkthrough that shows one colour per screen.

What is the figurine made of, and how big is it?

It is 3D-printed in resin, washed, cured, cleaned up and given two coats of primer so paint holds properly. Each figure stands about 13–14 cm tall (roughly the height of a coffee mug) on a black pedestal that is always included.

What paints are included?

Water-based acrylic paints, mixed at the studio to match the colours in your approved preview and poured into small numbered pots. Nothing needs to be mixed or matched at home. A pot of clear varnish is included for the final protective coat.

Painting it

Do I need any painting experience?

No. Every pot has a number, and every number appears on the paint map exactly where that colour goes. Most people finish their first figurine in one relaxed sitting of about 60–90 minutes, and small wobbles are part of the charm.

How long does it take to paint?

Most people finish in a single evening. A first sitting is typically 60–90 minutes for one figure; a two-person kit takes a little longer. Let the colours dry, then add the clear varnish coat a day later.

What if I make a mistake while painting?

Let the paint dry and paint over it; acrylic covers earlier mistakes well, and a little of the base colour is usually enough. The blog has a step-by-step guide to fixing miniature painting mistakes without starting over.

Can two people paint one kit together?

Yes, and most kits are painted that way. A two-person figurine comes as two separate pieces, so each person can paint one. It is designed as something to do together on an evening, which is why it ships unpainted.

Price and payment

How much does a custom figurine cost?

₹2,299 for one person, ₹3,299 for two people, ₹4,299 for three and ₹5,299 for four. A pet-only figurine is ₹1,999, and adding a pet to a people figurine is ₹999 per pet. The price includes the figurine and pedestal, all mixed paints, brushes, varnish, the printed guide and free standard delivery anywhere in India. Nothing is added at checkout.

Are there any hidden charges, shipping fees or GST added at checkout?

No. Standard delivery is free across India and the price shown is the price you pay. The only optional extras are ones you choose yourself, such as adding a pet.

Which payment methods are accepted?

Payment is online through Razorpay: UPI, credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, RuPay, American Express), net banking and wallets. Cash on delivery is available on eligible orders: you pay a ₹499 advance online plus a ₹99 COD fee to confirm the order, and the balance is collected at the door.

Do you offer discounts or coupon codes?

Occasionally. If you have a coupon code, enter it on the review page before paying and the discount is applied immediately.

Delivery

How long does delivery take?

Your figurine is made after you approve it and pay, which takes about 5–6 working days (printing, washing and curing the resin, two coats of primer, mixing and numbering the paints, printing the guide). Courier transit from Siliguri then takes roughly 2–3 days to nearby regions and up to 7–12 days to the farthest PIN codes. Your exact delivery estimate is shown at checkout for your PIN code, and you get WhatsApp updates and a tracking link once it ships.

Do you ship across India? Is shipping free?

Yes. Standard delivery is free to every serviceable PIN code in India, with no charge based on distance or weight. Kits ship from Siliguri, West Bengal, by courier (Delhivery, Blue Dart and partners), Monday to Saturday.

Do you ship internationally?

No. We ship within India only at the moment. Customers outside India can still order and have the figurine delivered to someone in India.

Can I choose a later delivery date, for example for an anniversary?

Yes. At checkout you can pick 'Later' and choose the delivery week you want, up to 12 weeks ahead, at no extra cost. We work backwards from that week so the kit arrives in time.

Can I send it directly to the person as a gift?

Yes. Enter their address at checkout and, if you like, their name under 'Is this a gift?', and the painting guide inside the box is addressed to them.

Gifting

What occasions is a custom figurine good for?

Anniversaries and weddings (a couple's figurine), parents' and grandparents' anniversaries or birthdays, Rakhi, Diwali, housewarmings, farewells, new jobs, Valentine's Day, and gifts for a best friend or a pet owner. Because the recipient paints it, it is also a good gift for someone who 'has everything'.

Why is a paint-it-yourself figurine a better gift than a painted one?

A finished figurine is a nice object someone was sent. A figurine the two of you painted at the table is an evening you spent together, and it stays on the shelf differently. The kit is built so that evening is calm rather than fiddly: colours pre-mixed, numbered, and mapped to their places.

Cancellations and returns

Can I cancel my order?

Yes, free of charge within 8 hours of placing it, by messaging +91 7076267167 on WhatsApp with your order number. After that the figurine is in production and can no longer be cancelled.

What is the return and refund policy?

Because every figurine is custom-made, it cannot be returned or refunded unless it arrives defective or damaged. If something arrives damaged, contact us within 1–2 days of delivery with an unboxing video and we will replace or refund it. Approved refunds reach the original payment method within 3–4 business days. Full details are in the Return and Refund Policy.

What if the figurine does not look like the person?

You approve the likeness before it is made and before you pay, and you have three free previews to get it right. If you need more help with the likeness, message us on WhatsApp before paying. Once a kit has been made it is a custom item and the refund policy applies.

See yours before you pay a rupee.

Three free previews per phone number. Nothing is made until you approve it.
